Materials List

  • polystyrene cone

     
  • 50g roll of cream colored crochet cotton twine

     
  • a few strands of natural colored raffia

     
  • 6 small striped fabric bows (green, red and gold stripes)

     
  • 11 flowers cut from medium brown guipure lace daisy trim

     
  • 9 sea shells (in the example, scallop shells were used)

     
  • 11 clear short oval tube beads 

     
  • 11 sewing pins with colored heads

     
  • 2” of green florist wire (26 or 28 gauge will work the best)

     
  • standard scissors

     
  • pliers

     
  • hot glue gun and glue sticks

     
  • old newspaper to protect the working area

     

Instructions

  1. .  Use the pliers to bend the 2” wire to make a small wire hook.
     

  2. Use the wire hook to fix one end of the cotton twine to the cone. 
     

  3. Wind the twine first lengthwise, and then in a in a criss-cross pattern tightly all around the cone.

  4. Continue winding the twine all around the cone until you reach the end of the twine. Press the end of the twine down and use a drop of hot glue to keep it in place.

  5. Wind a few strands of raffia around the cone, each time securing the ends of the raffia with a drop of hot glue.

  6. Hot glue the flowers, bows and shells to the Christmas tree.

  7. Use the beads to add Christmas baubles to tree - pin them to the cone using the sewing pins.
