Materials List

  • Empty 300ml clear glass wine bottle
  • Polystyrene ball with a diameter of 65mm
  • Strawberry blonde synthetic doll hair
  • 10" of white lace with a width of 5.2"
  • 10" of gold lace with a width of 3.6"
  • 2 small 1" long gold craft bows
  • 5 small gold satin roses
  • Artline 210 Fineliner black pen
  • Acrylic paint in the following three colors: white, red and flesh
  • Alcohol-free hairspray
  • Paint brush
  • Clear drying wood glue
  • Quick-drying craft glue (such as Bostik Clear)
  • Small kitchen knife
  • Hairdryer

Instructions:

  1. Remove the label, wash the bottle, and allow to dry upside down overnight.
Tip: If necessary, use mineral turpentine to remove any glue residue from where the label was stuck.

  2. Use the knife to make an opening in the polystyrene ball. The opening must be big enough so that the polystyrene ball can fit snugly onto the bottle. Add wood glue to the hole and push the ball onto the bottle. Allow the glue to dry for twelve hours.

  3. Use the white paint to add an uneven wash to the bottle and allow to dry. Do not paint the base of the bottle, but make sure that you paint all the way up to the polystyrene ball.

  4. Paint the polystyrene ball with the flesh paint and allow to dry.

  5. Use the Bostik to glue a piece of gold lace around the bottom of the bottle to make her dress and cut off the remaining lace. Also glue the two golden bows in place.

  6. Use the wood glue to add the first thin layer of hair directly onto the polystyrene ball and allow to dry. Then use Bostik to glue the rest of the hair in place, and shape her hair neatly with the scissors.

  7. Add the facial features: Paint small red circles to add her cheeks. Draw her eyelids, nose and singing mouth with the Artline pen.

  8. Make the angel’s wings: Use hairspray to stiffen the white lace. Spray the lace with the hairspray and use the hairdryer to set the hairspray. Keep spraying and drying with the hairdryer until the lace can maintain its shape. Then cut two half-a-hearts from the lace and use Bostik to glue each half to the back of the angel’s body.

  9. Use Bostik to glue the five roses to her hair to add her crown.

Do you think that I could use olive oil bottles or something similar to make these cuties? I have a ton of small bottles, but very few wine bottles. I can always ask my friends to save me some, but I want to make these now, so I might have to make a few with what I got and see how they turn out.
