DID YOU KNOW?

This is one of the most beautiful recycled Christmas card crafts we've seen here at AllFreeChristmasCrafts. It uses old Christmas cards that many of us have sitting around far after the rest of the Christmas decorations have been taken down. The first Christmas cards were sent in 19th century Britain, with the custom being started by Sir Henry Cole. Sir Henry Cole worked at what is now known as the Public Record Office. The first Christmas cards were illustrated by John Callcott Horsley and showed images of celebration and charity. Along with the images was the sentiment, "A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to You." These cards were sold by the thousands for a shilling each. Since then, Christmas cards have been a staple for sending good will to family and friends. They are so pretty that we like to put them up on display and, of course, make Christmas crafts with them afterward.

I have so many old cards just lying around that I'd feel bad throwing away! Now I've got a great use for them!

These are so easy to make, and so lovely when finished! I remember making them in school when I was a child!

What a great idea. I love the thought of reusing the cards into something meaningful for our tree! How clever.

I think it's great when we can recycle something and turn it into something else that's just as valuable! These Christmas greeting cards into an ornament is a great example. What a great memory keeper and I think the photos would be as good of an idea as the Christmas cards! Now I just have to relinquish those boxes of past Christmas cards I've kept!

This is so pretty and I read the instructions thru and it seems very easy to do. I remember a similar type ornament when I was a kid that my mom had when she was young and it was made in Germany. They were like a Christmas card with a thin Garland all around the edge.
