I love the idea of this project, but I am a little concerned about using actual candy canes. I used to use the same candy canes every year on my tree (packing them up with my decorations in January) but after a few years, the candy started to get sticky and a few even melted and stuck to other decorations. Do you spray your candy canes with anything to keep that from happening? Or do you only use them for one or two Christmases?

I really like the vintage look and feel of these candy cane ornaments. Plus, they look really easy to make and you get to eat the extra candy canes!

These are truly pretty and I want to make them but after reading the directions, I have to make a few changes. I won't be using real candy canes on the tree. I will make them out of clay. I live in Florida and if you put the real ones on the tree you will waken to the sound of roaches munching on them.
