Pin on some holiday cheer this season and create your own Christmas-themed jewelry. A Christmas Flower Brooch from Carlene Eshelman is festive and fun but not over the top. Add a holiday ribbon to the piece for a fun touch. Make one for yourself and or give it as a gift.

Christmas Flower Brooch
 

Materials:

  • 1 yard of 4” holiday ribbon
  • Tim Holtz tattered floral die
  • Die cutting machine
  • Glue gun/sticks
  • Circle pearl stem
  • 4” green glitter tulle
  • 24” X 6” red velvet fabric
  • 4” piece of bendable wire
  • Craft scissors
  • Pin backing
  • Mod Podge
  • Paint brush

Instructions:

  1. The day before, Mod podge the back of your velvet fabric.
     
  2. Let dry overnight.
     
  3. Die cut 4 large flowers using your velvet fabric and tattered florals die.
     
  4. Cut a slit in one flower between 2 petals, from outside to middle of flower.
     
  5. Apply hot glue to one of the petals on either side of the slit. Adhere other petal to hot glue.
     
  6. Take another flower, cut out one petal, creating a “v” shape into middle of petal.
     
  7. Place hot glue on either petal, and adhere as in step 3.
     
  8. Take 3rd flower, cut 2 petals out,creating a “v” shape into middle of petal.
     
  9. Place hot glue on either petal, and adhere. Cut about 1/4” off bottom of flower.
     
  10. Lay last flower on table. Place hot glue in middle of flower, adhere flower from step 3 to center. Cut 1/4” off bottom of flower.
     
  11. Take flower from step 6 and adhere to center of layered flowers.
     
  12. Roll up remaining scrap that has 2 petals, and glue to keep it rolled up.
     
  13. Cut about 1/4 of bottom off from rolled petal.
     
  14. Glue to center of flower.
     
  15. Cut stem away from pearls, and glue to back of rose.
     
  16. Fold tulle in half, then cut in half.
     
  17. Cut out a petal shape.
     
  18. Place a 1/2” line of glue at bottom of leaf, and gather to give your leaf dimension.
     
  19. Repeat for second leaf.
     
  20. Glue to back of flower allowing leaves to show in front of flower.
     
  21. Create a double bow using holiday ribbon and wire.
     
  22. Glue flower to center of bow.
     
  23. Glue pin backing to back of flower.
