Materials List

  • Old long play vinyl record
  • Acrylic paint in the following two colors: royal blue and white
  • 0.5"-wide self-adhesive gold fabric tape
  • 2"-high foam stamp of an angel
  • "Season's Greetings" rubber stamp
  • Micia Old Hand black dye ink pad
  • Pilot gold marker pen
  • 25mm-thick paintbrush
  • Thin paintbrush
  • Quick-drying matte spray varnish
  • Two old cloths
  • Mineral turpentine
  • Dishwashing liquid

Instructions:

  1. Use one of the cloths and the mineral turpentine to remove the center label sticker on the one side of the record. Note: You will have to soak the label a bit with turpentine before it will give way. Afterwards, wash the record with dishwashing liquid and dry with the second cloth.

  2. Using the 25mm-thick paintbrush, paint the side of the record where the label sticker has been removed with the royal blue paint and allow to dry thoroughly. Repeat two more times.

  3. Glue a strip of gold fabric tape across the record. Add two smaller strips and cut off any protruding edges.

  4. Use the rubber stamp and the black dye ink pad to add the words "Season’s Greetings" above the gold fabric tape.

  5. Use the foam stamp and the white paint to add stamped angels over the rest of record. Use the paint brush to apply a thin, even layer of the paint onto the foam stamp pad. Transfer the image onto the record and then carefully lift the stamp. Continue adding more angels in the same way. When stamping, the angels must face in different directions, as this will create a more interesting effect. Allow to dry thoroughly.

  6. Use the gold pen to draw squiggles all around the angels.

  7. Spray the top of the record with the varnish and allow to dry thoroughly.

What a neat way to jazz up the dining table, right? I can see using your design as an entire theme for a holiday dinner. I love snowmen, so this decoration is right up my alley. And, so easy to make. I love the plates because they are so bright and the glitter just ties the whole theme into the holiday season.
